Top 5 tourist places to visit in Bangladesh
Travelling to Asia? Explore Bangladesh to see mind-blowing places
Bangladesh, unlike many other tourist countries, is known best for its green natural beauty rather than skyscraper buildings and enthralling architecture. It has become an attractive place for tourists mostly for its peaceful scenario, also for the bold history of colonial rule and the liberation war afterwards. Its history is inextricably connected with the country’s religious and cultural values. Now, as a matter of fact, tourists from different regions need to have an open mindset to a nostalgic Asian subcultural experience before planning to visit the country. It will only make your visiting experience even more fascinating once you prepare yourself to learn about the country and its over friendly people during the tour!
You must be thinking what can be so outstanding about the country’s beauty, right? Let’s go through the list of the remarkable tourist places with small descriptions to get a glimpse of how its places are parts of the beautiful history and culture.
1. Cox’s Bazar: Being one of the longest sea beach in the world, Cox’s Bazar has made its place on top of almost every list you’ll find on the internet regarding tourist places of Bangladesh. As you can guess, it is a combo package of both savoring the southern beauty of Bangladesh and spending your time leisurely; surfing through the sea or lying down on the warm sand.
There are plenty of sea beach points named Inani, Himchari, Laboni etc. to let you see different ravishing views of the same sea beach. Cox’s Bazar is mainly a residence of the tribal people from the hill tracts. Hence, as a bonus, you will see a mixture of Bengali and different tribal cultures altogether. The Burmese Market near the beach is a visual representation of this mixture where you will find everything made by the rural people living there. Recently at the time I am writing this article, the Rohingya people exiled from Myanmar has taken shelter in camps not very far from the beach of Cox’s bazar.
The serenity of the island, sky full of stars and the melody of the sea waves can make your heart skip a beat
Bonus: An additional place I must mention here is Saint Martin Island which is just a ship ride away from Cox’s Bazar. This is a Coral island. If you are an enthusiastic sea lover and nature worshipper, visiting this place is a must. The serenity of the island, sky full of stars and the melody of the sea waves can make your heart skip a beat. Also, if you are thinking about food, you can try different sea fishes along with the local delicious dishes here.
2. Sylhet: There are two fascinating places in Sylhet I would like to emphasize on. Jaflong, the meeting point of hills and rivers and Sreemangal, the tea capital of Bangladesh.
Jaflong is situated near the border of Bangladesh and India. As the tribe Khasia lives here, the beauty of tribal life can also be found. The rolling stones beneath the water, the surrounding tea gardens and a united beauty of hills and rivers make this place heavenly throughout the whole year.
Sreemangal is also located near the border. Because of the vast numbers of tea gardens, this place has a different vibe.
It has a grieving history of being the military camp during the liberation war, being the witness of brutal violence many times. Yet, its beauty has never decreased a little. The astonishing view of Baikka bill, Hum Hum waterfalls; the heritage of Seven colored tea has made this place a favorite among the tourists.
3. Sajek Valley: Sajek valley is located in Khagrachari district, which is in the southern part of the country. Recently, the valley situated on top of the hills, has become the center of attraction among the Bangladeshi travelers. The place is famous for its breath taking landscape. The hills of India covered in clouds, the sunset and one cup of bamboo tea lifts you up on cloud nine!
The hills of India covered in clouds, the sunset and one cup of bamboo tea lifts you up on cloud nine!
There is a saying that “dangerous is beautiful”. One can immensely feel this once stepped out on the hilly roads of Sajek. Adventurous hiking on the hills, bathing under the waterfalls, roaming around in the Alutila cave, riding on special cars called ‘Chander gari’ creates an extraordinary vibe for this place.
4. Old Dhaka: Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. You must be wondering why I have selected Old Dhaka for a visiting then! Old Dhaka is the south part of Dhaka. In the early days, during the Mughal rule, this area was very developed. The Bengali heritage and culture flourished to a great extent at this period. The residents of the city used to reside in this part mostly. Old Dhaka or ‘Puran Dhaka’ according to the city dwellers, is the heritage of Dhaka. From 15th to 16th century, a lot of mosques, churches, fortresses, roads were built here. Lalbagh Fort, Armenian church, Tara mosque, Ahsan Manjil, Boro and Choto Katra are some of the great nostalgic places to visit.
The Mughal culinary style had an impact on the Bengali food habit at this time. Some historical food items like Nannar Biryani, Hazir Biryani, Beauty Lachchi have been the top attraction of people ever since. So do not miss these foods while you are at it!
5. The Sundarbans: Located on the shore of the Bay of Bengal, Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world. Some of the beautiful places to visit here are Sundarbans National Park, Sundarbans Sanctuaries etc. The biggest attraction of this place is the almost extinct Royal Bengal Tiger. It is also the national animal of Bangladesh. Moreover, this place is a sanctuary for the wild animals including rare Reptiles and Mammals. You might see species of Sea-animals, birds and what not!
The Sundarbans is an UNESCO recognized world heritage site. Here, you can not only find different species of animals, but rare breeds of trees like Sundari, Golpata, Gewa etc. The unique ecosystem between the animals and plants of this place is something interesting to look for. If you are a wildlife lover, then it surely will be a treat for the eyes! However, because of unfortified wildlife, this place can be a bit dangerous without any experienced tour guide.
A gentle reminder: Let’s keep the environment clean together. Happy travelling!
So which one of these places captured your attention the most? Hurry up to visit it as soon as possible!
